16th Annual Wear Yellow Ride, Run & Walk

  • Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

It’s our 16th Year! It will be amazing just like you, our supporters!

Wear Yellow Nebraska will be hosting the 16th Annual Wear Yellow Ride, Fun Run & Walk on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum, Ashland, Nebraska.

Costs:
We try to keep the cost of the event simple. From the opening of registration through March 31st, it’s only $35…that’s no April Fools! In the month of April, the price goes up $5 to $40. And On May 1st we go up $5 more to $45. You can register online until midnight on Sunday, May 5th. After that date you can register at any of the packet pick up events. So there’s some incentive to register early…like two Starbuck’s worth (in case it’s chilly on the day of the event!).

PROCEEDS
Your participation is making a difference. 100% of our proceeds support Wear Yellow Nebraska’s cancer fighting and cancer patient assistance programs. This event specifically supports the Wear Yellow Cab Ride Program.

Distances:
From a short cruise down the highway to a scenic loop over hills and countryside, you can experience the very best of springtime in rural Nebraska.

- For those craving roads, we offer 26, 32, 45 and 61 mile options.
- For those craving less formal roads, we’re excited to offer a new 27 mile beginners gravel option, and a 58 mile experienced gravel riders route.
- For those on two legs, we invite you to participate in the approximate 5K Run & Walk.

DEPARTURE TIMES & ROUTES
All routes depart from the Museum Durham Restoration Hangar.

7:00AM DEPARTURES

Ride & Run – Participants wishing to ride the 26 mile route and run/walk the Adventure 5K will depart at 7:00AM. You will need to complete the 26 mile ride by 9:50 AM to be ready to participate in the 5K Adventure Fun Run & Walk starting at 10:00AM.

61 Mile Route
A challenging route with rolling hills and plenty of scenery. Remember, it’s Nebraska and there will be a good headwind somewhere on this route. You earn a second set of pancakes for completing this route!
View the route here.

58 Mile Gravel Ride Route
For the adventure seekers that really want a workout. We’ve got gravel, minimum maintenance roads, hills, some trail and pavement, maybe a few farm dogs… but one heck of an adventure ride. Designed for riders who like their fat tire bikes, gravel and cross bikes, or their mountain bikes, this is the route for you. A semi-self supported route with one power stop through the farmlands of eastern Nebraska.
View the route here.

45 Mile Route
A good mid-length route for those who want to get a workout in, but not push it too far. Filled with rolling hills, and a few decent climbs that will make you work for those sweets at the power stop.
View the route here.

8:00AM DEPARTURES

32 Mile Route
The Perfect Route! A mix of everything, rolling hills, flats, a few good climbs, and great scenery through the Platte River Valley.
View the route here.

26 Mile Route
A good route to start the season with. If you took the winter off, and had to dust off your seat, this is a great route to start on.
View the route here.

27 Mile Beginners Gravel Ride Route
A good training ride. Filled with hills, decent climbs, a few Strava sprint areas, and a good distance.

10:00AM DEPARTURE

The Run & Walk
We don’t want the cyclists to have all the fun! No bike? No problem! Lace up your walking/jogging/running shoes to help fellow Nebraskans in the fight against cancer. The Run & Walk will start at the SAC museum hangar and follow an approximate 3.6 mile course through the wide open spaces of Mahoney State Park. While the majority of the route is paved, there is a short section between the SAC museum and Mahoney State Park that is grassy/gravel. A Power Stop will be included at the half-way point. New this year, we will have timing services provided by Be About. No Frills Timing Services. Fun prizes will be awarded for our top three male and female finishers. A Power stop will be included at the half way point.
View route here.

The event ends at 2:00PM. Courses and on course support, Expo Area, Power Stops and the Pancake Man will be closed at this time.

Please choose a route that you can complete by noon to take full advantage of the events at the start/finish.

You can help support Wear Yellow Nebraska by registering as a Virtual Rider/Runner/Walker. You don’t have to actually ride, run, or walk, just support our organization and our event participants virtually.

Holiday Lights Ride

'Twas ten days before Christmas and all through Cycle Works
Not a person was crabby, not even the jerks. The ugly sweaters were washed by the riders with Cheer (mostly because Tide is so pricey) in the hopes that the Holiday Lights Ride soon would be here.

This year let's kick it up a notch, if you're up for some extra holiday cheer come to the ride dressed as either Santa Claus, Mrs. Clause, an elf or as a reindeer because how rad will it be to see a parade of Christmas Joy riding around Lincoln! This is completely optional, you can wear anything and we will still welcome you.

The wait is over, dust off your mittens and scarfs, decorate your bikes with garland and lights, grab the mistletoe and join us for our 4th annual Holiday Lights Ride. We will meet at Cycle Works at 5pm for hot cider, cookies and socializing. The ride will leave at 6pm from the shop, we will take a tour through the Sheridan neighborhoods to take in the light and decorations before ending at Yia Yia's where you can enjoy pizza, cold beverages and great company.

For your safety and others, lights (both front and rear) and helmets are required. We will be riding at night on the public streets and trails so please be aware of traffic and ride safely. This will be a social ride at a chit chat pace, cyclists of all skill levels are welcomed.

Cranksgiving!

Cranksgiving!

Cranksgiving is a food drive on two wheels. Part bike ride, part food drive, part scavenger hunt, it has been held annually in New York City since 1999, initially by bicycle messengers.

Bring a bike, a bag, a lock, and about $15-$20 to buy food. All of the food collected at grocery stores benefit your local charity, the Bellevue Food Pantry, to help provide needy families with a wealth of food during the week of Thanksgiving. First of all, riders must use bicycles as their only means of transportation. After all, why would you call it "Cranks-giving" if cycling was not involved? Secondly, no entry fee or registration charge is collected! The point of the ride is for charity, so we're doing it out of the kindness of our little cycling hearts! ♥ So join us! You don't have to be a member so don't worry about that, but if you have fun and like us, check out our rides and monthly meetings!

Spooks & Spokes Bike Scavenger Hunt Ride

Spooks & Spokes Bike Scavenger Hunt Ride

We've had a lot of requests for a trail ride.... and well you know we don't just do the average ride, so let's go on a scavenger hunt!

Get your team of two ready for our first, scavenger hunt bike ride through the trails of Omaha.

Details:
Team Size: 2 People

Cost: $40 per team, includes event T-shirt... and maybe some surprises.

Time: 12:00 PM - Yes, we know it's a Husker Game Day and we will have the game on in the brewery (let's hope for an evening game).

How's this going to work: at 12:00 PM, teams will be given a number of questions, this could be like a test, a crossword puzzle, a fill in the blank... you'll find out at 12:01. You'll have to answer these questions to identify the locations you need to go to in Omaha to collect an item, perform a task, or share that you were there to collect points. To get to these locations you will need to ride the Omaha Trail system and possibly a few neighborhoods. There will be no riding on major streets like 72nd, 96th, Center, Pacific...etc. All teams will need to return to Pint 9 Brewery with the items they've collected from the various stops by 3:00PM. We will then see what top three teams have accumulated the highest number of points and declare our winners!

Post Event Fun: Pint 9 beers, The Dire Lion Food Truck, and hundreds of your bike friends for a post ride party.

Registration: Register early, as those who do may get a few more details about the event... before the event! T-shirt deadline is October 1st.

The folks from All-City Cycles will be stopping through on their way home from Grinduro. We’ll occupy their time with a shop hang/happy hour ‘round 4:30p or so (free beer provided by New Belgium Brewing!), ride departure at 5:30p. 22ish mile ramble up to Ponca (Hills, not SP) for some gravel and ice cream (the breakfast ride route if you’re familiar).

Probably catching the sunset/city view up at Neale Woods. Ride an All-City if ya have it. If ya don’t, ride an old mtb. And if ya don’t have either of those... well, then what are ya even doin?! (jk, ride what ya got.) Bring lights(!) as we’ll be riding back in the dark. Direct all questions to the duck phone. Please, aaaaaaand thank ya. MCA CX

Meet at 5:30 PM at the shop and we'll warm up riding to Van Dorn Parkfor 6:00 PM hot laps.

We'll run differing scenarios of 1, 2, 3, or 5 lap efforts in order to help everyone prepare for cx efforts, races, and to practice bike handling at speed. If you get dropped, either continue your effort or jump back in on a wheel and hang on.

Plan on 90 minutes of on and off efforts and stay for as long as you can. Can't meet us at the shop? Then join us at the park when you can.

We'll meet a little earlier in October to compensate for the decreasing daylight, and we may throw in some varied course locations based on the Star City CX schedule.

Please remember to bring flat changing tools, an extra tube, water, and riding snacks.

If you're looking to build your cx skills, drop in on a Star City CX School.

Electric Bike Night at OBC

This has been such a popular event that we're doing one last one before the weather takes a winter turn.

Join us for testimonials from e-bike riders, take one (or several) for a test ride, and get all of your questions about ebikes answered. The presentation will be short and sweet; it's mostly about getting some test rides out and rolling. They honestly do sell themselves! Discounts for purchases that night only. Bring a friend!
